Our mission is to be a community of excellence that creates a safe
environment where students become college- and career- ready.
T.T. Knight Middle School is located in a southern suburban part of Jefferson County and is a part of the Jefferson County Public School system. The area consists of hardworking individuals and families. The school, which is fairly small relative to other middle schools in the district, is comprised of roughly 470 students. Demographic information indicates that of the student body 63% are White, 27% are African American, 8% are Latino/Hispanic American, 1% American Indian and 1% Asian. 86% of the student body receives a free or reduced lunch. We consider ourselves a true neighborhood school that retains 92% of the market share of its resides area.
In July 2011, new leadership took over leadership of T. T. Knight and has begun implementing a vision and direction for the school that will make the school a school of excellence.
The school is implementing a 5-year strategic plan that is driving school improvement efforts. We are
pursuing goals to ensure that student-centered, rigorous, relevant, engaging and
differentiated instruction is occurring daily and that professional
learning communities among staff members are developing. The strategic plan is centered around 3 big rocks, (a) academic performance, (b) efficiency, and (c) learning environment. The philosophical framework that is driving our school improvement is PEAK. PEAK stands for Performance Excellence for All Kids. The PEAK philosophy and its strategies embody the belief originated by Spence Rogers that "our kids are worth whatever it takes."
We offer several programs for students to enrich their academic experience such as art, drama, career choice, chorus, health, and physical education. We offer many extra curricular activities such as National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Quick Recall, Football, Basketball, Flag Football, Cheer Leading, Dance/Step Team, Cross Country, Track, Bobcat Club, and many others. Over 85% of our student body participate in an extra-curricular activity at Knight.
